Hey, what's up? Here's yet just another step into my world. I have a lot of things I have to fil you guys in about, but that will come later. Let's start with today.
The Achieve aferschool program that I work for had our annual end of the year performance for all of the parents, family, and friends to come out and see what thier kids have been doing in our program all year. I can honestly say that I was blown away by our kids performance today. The crazy thing is how I was there every step of the way to see as this came together, and these kids still found way to touch my heart. Throughout all of my years of high school I have been affiliated with this program and each year I have watched kids grow and progress into being more developed human beings. Each day at Achieve we continue to bond and become more of a family. And being in an environment which highly promotes learning, growth, and creativity amongst our youth gives me the motivation to continue to do what I do more and continue to do it well.
I think the performance that touched me the most today was by this little girl that I am in this picture on the left with. Last year, this same child was in my group and had a crush on me. I found it humorous. Let me tell you, this was one of my sillyest and loudest kid, but she made the job worth while. She has never been a bad kid, but sometimes played around a little too much. However, I knew walking in to that building everyday that she would make me laugh even if I was having a bad day. This year she is not in my group, but I continue to watch her grow and mature and I see some of my lessons to her starting to have an effect. Today at the show, she sung "No One" by Alicia Keys which has pretty much been the Achieve theme song for this year. Just seeing that little girl on stage made me sit back and realize why I do what I do here and refreshed my purpose. It's moments like today where we come together and celebrate what we have been working on by presenting it to our community that make us realize why we have been doing it in the first place. It seems to give the journey of life purpose when we get a chance to see what we have "Achieved".
